The Perfect QE2?

Post  Louis De Sousa on Thu Sep 09, 2010 3:25 pm

The QE2 had so many changes to her exterior and interior since her maiden voyage back in 1969, some of the changes like many things in life were like and disliked by people. If it was possible to build another QE2 name at least 2 things you would take from these 40 years of the QE2 and add it to the new ship.Would this maybe be the Perfect QE2 then?

The Lookout Bar (for sure) and the Grand Lounge with the horse shoe staircase that was removed in 1994

I love so much the pre-falklands QE2 - if they had just left the Lookout that you mention it would be perfect. Although I never bought into the hotel up top. The original suites mid-ships on One & Two decks were magnificent and were in fact modelled after the ones from the original Mary & Elizabeth. They are a testament to her regal lineage. The photo below shows my cabin 2088 on her last transat. The original furnishings were better I think though.
