QE2 - One Hit Wonders?

Post  CAP on Mon Jan 10, 2011 5:43 pm

Thinking about her ports of call, which were maiden visits, which the most frequented or the most glamourous (or not as the case maybe). But which were the ports (if any!) in all of QE2's years did she visit only once, the one hit wonders?

It would be good to capture the where and when Arrow

Great idea Chris that would be really good to find out, maybe we open another slot on the forum for this where we can add the countries and the cities of which were visited by the QE2.

I'll kick it off with probably the most famous/historic visit as I don't believe she has been back since

Cumberland Bay East, Grytviken. South Georgia 27-29/5/1982 - Falkland Islands Conflict

Did QE2 ever visit Yalta, Russia after the fiasco on her first visit on her 1980 World Criuise?

I don't believe so - although my records are incomplete. That said the location is now back on the Cunard list with QV already completing two calls.

There are likely to be many twists and exceptions especially as the review is over a 40 year span so perhaps it is worthwhile adding a little more qualification to the criteria before the thread extends further.

What constitutes a visit? Being alongside or anchored, embarking/disembarking passengers, in the port for a given amount of time?

Should the port be one she intended to visit or one she was diverted too?

What if she left a port and then returned within a matter of days - should this be included?

My thoughts are keeping it simple and it is any port irrespective of the amount of time spent there, irrespective of passenger movement. A return to port should count but only as long as it is part of the same voyage itinerary.

Other opinions sought...
